CAPE TOWN SLEDDING A MUSHERS CHECK LIST "For the dogs by the mushers " GENERAL 1. I am knowledgeable about all the aspects of safety regarding sled dogs and mushing equipment. 2. I confirm that I have received and read the event rules as supplied by CTS prior to this event. 3. My dog(s) can be identified by Microchip or Tattoo corresponding with my documentation. 4. I deem myself and my dog(s) to be qualified to partake in this event. 5. Not all equipment is the same for the different classes, yours does it comply with your specific event? 6. I agree that I will not be responsible for any free standing advertising other than that of the official event sponsor in and around the trail - this will exclude my personal sponsors on my personal clothing or equipment and travel trailer or vechile. 7. I will take full responsibility for all dogs on my team 8. I agree that it will be illegal to transport a dog, in the event a dog is injured or refuses to run that dog should be dropped at a qualified Trail Stewart who will transport the dog the fastest possible way back to the finish area for medical attention. If no Trail Steward is available, the Musher shall stop and abandon the event. ANTI-DOPING 1. I have read the IFSS/WSA and SAFSS anti-doping rules for the sledding/mushing sport. 2. I in person have not taken any forbidden medication or supplements. 3. I have not provided any forbidden medication or supplements to my dog(s). 4. I have provided my dog(s) with legal medication as listed on reverse. HEALTH 1. None of my dog(s) are participating with an injuring that I am aware of. 2. My dog(s) receives the required nutrition to engage in working events as per the IFSS/SAFSS regulations. 3. I have adequate water reserves to provide water to my dog(s) before, during & after the event. 4. My dog(s) have had all the prescribed vaccinations as indicated on my vet card for my dog(s). 5. Vet card available for verification. 6. Do you only participate within the IFSSS/SAFSS regulations regarding the maximum temperature allowed? SAFETY Dogs 1. In rough underfoot conditions is your dog(s) wearing booties on all feet? 2. The harness in use; does it suit the event in fitting properly without any harm to the dog(s) whatsoever. 3. The collar in use is it specific designed for the event. 4. The distance between dogs in pairs does that comply with measurements provided by IFSS/SAFSS? 5. Is your lead dog trained for that position? 6. Are all your dogs trained to pull in a team at event level 7. Are all your dogs fit to participate? Musher 1. For canicross, I will wear good running shoes usually used for cross country running and will not wear shoes which could be dangerous to dogs (i.e shoes with metal spikes) 2. For bikejoring, I will wear cycling clothes, cycling gloves, cycling shoes, a cycling helmet approved by SABS standards, In the event of using "clipless" pedals proper cycling shoes to be worn otherwise a good quality cross country running shoes will suffice. 3. For scooter, I will wear cycling clothes or a snug fit tracksuit, cycling gloves, cycling shoes, a cycling helmet approved by SABS standards, a good quality cross country running shoes. Boots and overalls will not be permitted. 4. For Team classes, I will wear cycling gloves and a helmet approved by SABS standards. Clothing should include a pair of lightweight boots, a pair of jeans with a sweater or as traditionally accepted in S.A a "jumpsuit". It is important to dress warm as these teams normally stay out longer and in many cases the musher is less active behind his team as in other classes. 5. Neutral clothes shall be warned with no writing on it, except for writing or logos of a personal or event sponsor. 6. I agree to follow the rules of good sportsmanship during this events EQUIPMENT General 1. If partaking in canicross, bikejoring or scooter classes, are you using a distance harness? 2. If partaking in cart/rig mushing are you using a x-back or y-back harness? 3. Regardless the class, does your bungee have an elastic cord for each dog attached to your line? Canicross 1. The dog shall be attached to the runner with a snub line, with a bungee at all times. 2. The snub line shall be attached to the runner by a hip belt (at least 7cm wide and carried over the spine). 3. It is prohibited to have any form of metal hook or ring at the runner's end of the line. The snub line shall not exceed 2,5m in length in a resting position. Bikejoring 1. The dog shall be attached to the bicycle or to the cyclist with a snub line, with a bungee at all times. 2. If attached to the bicycle, the snub line shall not exceed 2,5m in length in a resting position in front of the bicycle. If attached to the cyclist, it should be with a hip belt (at least 7cm wide and carried over the spine) - same length of 2,5m meters apply. 3. It is prohibited to have any form of metal hook or ring at the cyclists end of the line. 4. The bicycle shall be equipped with an efficient brake system on each wheel. No form of mudguards will be permitted. Scooter 1. My dog shall be attached to the scooter snub line, with a bungee at all times. 2. The snub line shall not exceed 2,5m in length in a resting position in front of the scooter. 3. The scooter shall be equipped with an efficient brake system on each wheel. No form of mudguards will be permitted. 4. The minimum wheel diameter on both wheels shall be 30cm. Team Classes : Carts/Rigs 1. My dogs shall be secured and properly harnessed in single or double line. 2. My dogs shall be fastened to the gangline from the harness by a tugline 100 cm long on the rear and a neckline 35 cm long on the front. 3. The cart/rig in a 4-dog class may either have three (3) or four (4) wheels. 4. The cart/rig in classes exceeding 4-dogs (6-dog, 8-dog or unlimited shall have four (4) wheels. 5. My carts/rigs will be equipped with an efficient brake system on each wheel with locking brake. No form of mudguards will be permitted. 6. The minimum wheel diameter on both wheels is not less than 30cm. 7. My cart/rig has been constructed, that I can ride on it and control the cart in a standing position without requiring any help. 8. The distance between the wheels of my cart, measured from the centre of the wheels is at least 75 cm and not exceeding. 9. I confirm that my cart is carrying an emergency line, at least an additional dog harness, leash and an extra neckline. 10. I hereby confirm that my cart/rig comply with the recommended minimum weight: 4 dog team, 25kg / 6 dog team, 35kg / 8 dog team, 45kg I, .... ID # . Bib Number: hereby declare that the completion of the above declaration is a true reflection of my participation in the mushing sports and that I am solely responsible for all my actions during my participation at this Cape Town Sledding event. I take full responsibility for me and my dogs. I hereby waiver any legal grounds against CTS, its Committee or any person attached to the said Association regarding my personal conduct, adhering to health and safety rules as described above and therefore cannot keep HSC accountable as the organisers of this event. This waiver does not include SAFSS who in their capacity as Controlling Body and sactioner of this event, will remain responsibility and accountable by its executive committee, event marshalls, safety personnel, in providing proper medical care and guidance to adherence to national and international animal health & safety and anti-doping laws as in guidance provided to their registered mushers as per their constitution and bylaws.
